Abstract:

Trapped ions and cold atoms which are highly controllable offer us the most reliable and scalable quantum simulators. In this talk I will discuss firstly how to use trapped ions interacting with lasers to simulate some quantum phenomena in condensed matter physics, eg. quantum magnitism and the superfluid to Mott-insulator phase transition. In the second part I will turn to cold atoms in optical lattices, especially I will focus on dipolar bosons confined in one-dimensional optical lattices with/without disorders. I will give our new results on the quantum phase transions in this system.
