Title: Quantum simulations of unphysical operations and quantum field theories in trap

Abstract:

In this talk I will introduce the concept of unphysical operations and I will show how to implement them in standard quantum platforms. Unphysical operations represent a new way of interacting with the simulated dynamics enhancing the toolbox of available operations and opening the door to the study of quantum protocols in this new framework. In the second part of the talk, I will show how a trapped ion setup can be used to simulate processes as creation and annihilation of particles paving the way to the quantum simulation of quantum field theories in perturbative and nonperturbative regimes.
 



Short Bio:

1) Dr. Jorge Casanova studied physics at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU, Bilbao, Spain, obtaining a PhD in theoretical physics under the supervision of Prof. Enrique Solano.
2) Dr. Jorge Casanova is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU combining research activities and student supervision.
3) Dr. Jorge Casanova has published 16 articles during his PhD, among them we can mention 5 Physical Review letters, 1 Physical Review X, and 2 New Journal of Physics. He has developed pioneer works in quantum simulations of quantum field theories in trapped ions, and in the study of the deep strong coupling regime of light-matter interaction.
4) Dr. Jorge Casanova has realized several stays abroad, including Harvard University (EE.UU), Max-Planck Institute for Quantum Optics (MPQ, Germany), and Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI, Austria). He has given invited talks in these institutions and in several conferences around the world.
5) Dr. Jorge Casanova is currently developing interdisciplinary research in quantum information, quantum optics, quantum chemistry, and high-energy physics.
