About CQI

Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences

The Quantum Information Center of Tsinghua University, affiliated with the Cross Information Research Institute, was founded in 2011. It is committed to taking the international lead in the race to create quantum computers and quantum Internet, setting a benchmark for China in international cutting-edge scientific research, and building a world-class quantum information research center and talent training base.

Mr. Yao Qizhi is one of the few computer scientists who first entered the field of quantum information for research and made groundbreaking contributions to this field. Academician Duan Luming, Director of the Quantum Information Center, is one of the international young leaders in the implementation of quantum information physics. He is responsible for building a physics experimental team for quantum information and has been engaged in research on quantum computing and quantum information technology for a long time, achieving original and systematic results; Rao Yutai won the Basic Optics Award, the second prize of the the State Natural Science Award, the Sloan Research Award of the United States, outstanding research of the Overseas Chinese Physical Society, etc. In 2009, he was elected a member of the American Physical Society, the first New Cornerstone researcher, and in 2023, he was elected a member of the CAS Member; Currently leading research projects in the field of ion quantum computing under the National 2030 Major Research Program, with over 300 published papers in authoritative journals such as Nature, Science, and Physical Review Letters.

The Quantum Information Center adopts a management approach of world-class universities and research institutions, with main research directions including quantum information, quantum computing, quantum networks, quantum artificial intelligence, superconducting quantum computing, condensed matter physics, etc. The center has currently established multiple experimental research platforms for quantum computing, including ion quantum computing, superconducting quantum computing, optical quantum networks, and diamond quantum computing, as well as micro nano processing ultra clean rooms. There are about 100 professors, associate professors, assistant professors, postdoctoral fellows, researchers, experimenters, and doctoral students in total. Multiple papers from the Quantum Information Center have been published in internationally renowned academic journals such as Nature, Science, and Physical Review Letters, greatly enhancing China's international influence in the field of quantum information.

Since 2022, 13 researchers led by Academician Duan Luming have joined the construction of Hefei Quantum National Laboratory as dual hired experts, adding another mission and responsibility to the Quantum Information Center. The center is guided by major needs such as national information security and improved computing capabilities, focusing on breaking through cutting-edge scientific issues and core key technologies that promote the second quantum revolution led by quantum information, cultivating strategic emerging industries such as quantum communication, and seizing the high ground of international competition and future development of quantum technology.
