The Advanced Workshop on “Quantum Network Platform: 20-Year Roadmap” was held at ITCS from May 9-10, 2010. The workshop was co-organized by the “Quantum Network Platform: 20-Year Roadmap” Project Group and ITCS, Tsinghua University. Prof. Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, Director of ITCS and Prof. Amy Yuexuan Wang, Deputy Director joined the two-day workshop.
More than forty distinguished experts in quantum research and officials from the National Natural Science Foundation of China participated in the workshop. Among them were academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, namely Prof. Guangcan Guo and Prof. Shining Zhu, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, namely Prof. Cheng Wu, Prof. Zhongyi Zhou, Prof. Yunjie Liu and Prof. Zuoning Chen, as well as scholars from Tsinghua University, Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China, Nanjing University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and Fudan University.
The Advanced Workshop on “Quantum Network Platform: 20-Year Roadmap” consisted of presentations and discussion sessions centering on following topics:
1. Quantum network and its feasibility
2. Strategic research directions in quantum network and its key techniques
3. Applications of quantum network
4. Critical approaches, policy recommendations and risk analysis of quantum network
During the workshop, experts and scholars shared the latest development in their respective fields and conducted a thorough analysis of the future of quantum informatics, its strategic development agenda and key techniques in next twenty years. Participants all expressed readiness in pushing forward concertedly the development of China’s quantum informatics to the world-class level.
Quantum informatics, as an emerging cross-disciplinary area of subject of quantum mechanics and informatics that provides a new technology in the post-Moore era, has become a hot issue in international strategic competitions. And the “Quantum Network Platform: 20-Year Roadmap” will explore key supporting technologies for the quantum network platform in 20 years and lay a solid foundation for its ultimate realization.
