Abstract:

After a brief review of current status of quantum gravity, I will focus largely on its most successful formulation in which the gravity in d+1 dimensional asymptotic AdS spacetime is dual to d dimensional quantum field theory without gravity. As any other unification in the history of physics, such a holographic formulation of quantum gravity has been finding it's very applications in addressing some hard quantum many body problems, ranging from QCD to condensed matter physics by mapping them into their much readily attacked gravity duals, which makes this frontier a highly interdisciplinary. I will sketch such applications in the rest of talk.

Short Bio:

Hongbao Zhang completed his undergraduate studies in Physics at Beijing Normal University before attending Peking University for his Masters in Particle Physics under the supervision of Prof. Chongshou Gao. He received his PhD in Astrophysics after spending one year with Prof. Zonghong Zhu at Beijing Normal University and two years with Prof. Achim Kempf and Dr. Federico Piazza at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and University of Waterloo. He held a postdoctoral position at University of Crete before his current FWO Fellow at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and The International Solvay Institutes.
